These awards were held on Friday night October 12 as part of the Queensland Bride Expo held at the Convention Centre in Brisbane. The awards have been a part of the bridal industry in Brisbane for the past 12 years and Wendy has been fortunate enough to have had quite a few winners over the years. Leading up to the awards Wendy and her team put their heart and soul into the gowns. Wendy has never been one to design for judges. Her philosophy is that any gown she enters in awards must be something that a bride would want to wear. Here she is making some final tweaks to the gowns and the catwalk look.
The gowns were finally finished on the Friday morning just prior to judging.
Judging as always was nerve wracking, even after almost 20 years of competing in awards, however the results were well worth the finger nail biting. The night was exceptional for her being Runner-up in the Classique Bride and Bride Nouveau sections, Highly Commended in the Avant Garde section, and Winner of the Couture Section, Peoples Choice and overall Supreme Winner. This was an exciting night for her and made the hard work, late nights and stress leading up to the awards well worth it. The judges admitted on the night that they had a very difficult job as the standard was very high across all categories.
Wendy was very humbled by being chosen as the Supreme Award winner. She loves what she does and feels that she’s good at what she does and loves her brides but it’s always nice to be recognised. At the same time to be awarded amongst some of the top bridal designers in Australia is a humbling experience.
Wendy is very grateful for the tireless work and support of her team. From Coral, her sample machinist, and all the Work Room team, Del, Ashleigh and Phoebe who were fantastic in their support and work in getting the gowns ready and, of course, Emma who is our BellaDonna Brand Manager full time and proffessional model part time. Having her in house for fittings and try ons as well as having her looking beautiful on the Runway is fantastic and she does a great job. Queensland Bride has been a great supporter of our industry through these awards and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support. Xennox Diamond World and Gardham’s Fabrics have also been long term supporters through their sponsorship of the awards and their categories and we thank them as well. We also must acknowledge Andrew and Anna at Porfyri Photography for these wonderful shots from the awards and for their continuing support www.porfyri.com.au. Now….let’s start work on next years award gowns.
