Natalie’s story first aired on a Current Affair just before Christmas and it was a heart wrenching tale of a young lady with terminal cancer wanting to marry the love of her life, Matt. Victoria Black, the publisher of Modern Wedding magazine jumped to it and organised the dream wedding that Natalie and Matt didn’t think would happen for them. We were more than happy to give Natalie a gown for her day and I flew down to Sydney and saw her at Marry Me in Mosman. Julia from Marry Me and I worked with Natalie and combined a couple of styles together to create her dream gown. Natalie’s daughter Emily and her Mother, Kerrie-Ann, came along and the whole salon was dedicated to them. I also told Natalie we would make a flowergirl dress for 8 year old Emily as well and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
We sent Natalie’s gown in the first week of the new year for a fitting but she had become quite ill so we weren’t too sure how we would go with fittings. With Victoria’s help and the invaluable assistance of Sydney designer Dianne Lewis, who made the bridesmaids, Natalie had her fitting and Dianne did the alterations to both her’s and Emily’s gowns. The lead up to the Wedding at Chateau Elan www.chateauelan.com.au in the Hunter Valley wasn’t good for Natalie. She was back in hospital the week before and she had definately taken a turn for the worse but the fighting spirit that has seen her triumph over her illness in the past came to the forefront and she bounced back to be looking radiant and well on the day.
The Wedding was beautiful and we felt very priveledged to attend. Natalie arrived in a horse and carriage which was a surprise to the animal lover. Sarah Cummings from Engage Celebrants www.engagecelebrants.com.au did a magnificent job of the ceremony and added the little touches that Natalie and Matt wanted, seamlessly. The couple wanted Emily and the two families very much involved and Sarah incorporated all their requests.
The reception was magnificent and Chateau Elan pulled out all stops. Victoria Black had organised all the meat and produce to be donated and Tyrell’s Wines came to the party well and truly with the wine and bubbles. The decorators did a magnificent job as did Mick Fetch who sang during the ceremony and later DJ’ed intothe wee small hours. The list of contributors is long and many and I would love to be able to list them all. I’ve enlisted the help of Modern Weddings blog here where they did the hard work for me. http://www.modernwedding.com.au/blog .
I know there’s a lot of photos on the Modern Wedding blog but I would like to post some of my favourites from the day as well. For the full story on Channel Nine’s A Current Affair, here’s the link http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article/8596704/natalies-dream-wedding .
