We are into February! Can you believe it brideys?! It feels like only yesterday that gorgeous Nichole came into our East Brisbane Studio until we realised it was last May and we’ve totally lost the last 9 months! We were blessed to create the sweetest custom creating for Nikki which captured her personality beautifully.
Just one look at these gorgeous images from Martinia O’Sullivan at Life Love and Light Images and you just feel the love and laughter between these two high school sweethearts! Set in the gorgeous backdrop of our friends at Bundaleer Rainforest Retreat some magic is created!
How did you and your partner meet?
We met during high school- we’ve know each other since we were 13, but became friends at 15 and then started dating at 16!
It was the weekend before my birthday and I was surprised with a romantic weekend away! We went to the Gold Coast Hinterland (which I love) and had a picnic at O’Reilly’s Vineyard. After some wine and cheese, we went for a walk by this little running stream when he got down on one knee!
I knew that I wanted something quite simple and traditional- I knew I didn’t want lace or bling on my dress (eliminating 95% of all bridal gowns) yet at the same time I wanted to be comfortable and able to move. I tried on a few dresses that were so heavy and uncomfortable- it made such a difference when I first tried on a Wendy Makin gown and could breath and move and dance! The dresses were all so light and airy; and I automatically knew that I wanted to feel that way on my wedding day. The team were wonderful in letting me adjust and customise one of their (already fabulous!) gowns to match my vision.
Why did you choose Wendy Makin?
The ease of customisation made a huge difference and meant I could walk down the aisle in exactly what I had imagined myself wearing. The team was fabulous in adjusting around my busy schedule. I’m a doctor and I work some horrendous shifts and really inhospitable hours but the girls at Wendy Makin somehow made it really easy to come in for fittings.
We chose Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens in Brookefield. There was a lot of family involvement – we had our 4 nieces and 2 nephews as part of the bridal party which meant the entire wedding had taken on a more relaxed feel. We were aiming for something elegant and timeless that we could look back on in 20 years and still be happy with yet we also wanted to have fun and wanted our guest to enjoy themselves.
We were concerned that we wouldn’t get all our page boys and flower girls down the aisle- our youngest page boy (18 months!) was placed at the end of the aisle and just ran down to his mum who was waiting at the front. He also had a very sneaky role in the group photos after the wedding- when we looked at them after the wedding we can see that he had been thrown in the air and looked like he was flying behind all our wedding guests.
Seeing my soon to be husband waiting for me at the end of the aisle- It made all the stress and nerves disappear and all I wanted to do was be by his side.
How did you feel at the end of the day?
Like it should never end- I wanted to keep dancing the night away!
