We are very blessed in our jobs to be able to celebrate the union of two people. Love is our business everyday! But every now and then we get to be part of a marriage that just hits you in the feels like none of the rest and that was certainly the way with Steph + Matt’s wedding. Set in some of our favourite local Brisbane venues (you might notice a particular wall that features in our Couture photoshoots!), their day was filled with so much raw emotion, joy and of course – love. There wasn’t a dry eye in our office after we watched their video with Matt’s vows (link below) Special mention to the appearance of one very cute doggo named Rufus whom we now want to meet and pet!
How did you and your partner meet?
As our celebrant put it, ours was a real Tinderella story! We met 3.5 years ago on Tinder and texted and called for a few weeks before we met. We had all these crazy missed connections throughout our lives (ie. Living on the same campus at uni, working on Park Road at the same time), but we like to think we met at exactly the right time 🙂
Was there a proposal? Tell us about it!
Matt proposed the day after he completed his first triathlon, right before Christmas. After a great day together, I started getting ready for bed while Matt said he was doing some work. He came upstairs after half hour or so and told me to come out on to the balcony to ‘check out the light show’. He’d spelled out ‘marry me’ in tea lights on our back lawn. Amazing! I burst into tears and of course when he dropped to one knee I gave a very enthusiastic yes.
How did you find your dress?
I initially went for a completely different Wendy Makin dress – the Natisse, however saw the new collection released over the Christmas holidays and fell head over heels for Valina. A totally different dress but oh so gorgeous!
Why did you choose Wendy Makin?
A few of my girlfriends had Wendy Makin gowns and they all looked absolutely stunning. Their gowns fit like a glove, and I loved the idea of having something made to fit my body. It didn’t hurt that each and every gown she creates is amazing detailed and beautiful. I knew I’d feel special in a Wendy Makin made to measure gown.
How was your Wendy Makin experience?
Fantastic, I couldn’t ask for anything better. I felt so welcome each and every time I went in for a fitting, nothing was too much trouble, Wendy and the team took amazing care of me and put me at ease. I knew without a doubt that they would create the most perfect dress for me.
Where was the wedding and reception?
The ceremony was at High Church in Fortitude Valley, and the reception was Factory 51 in Coorparoo. We choose to have our photos at Kangaroo Point Cliffs.
How did aspects of the wedding reflect you and your partner?
One of our favourite parts of the day was walking out of High Church after the ceremony to see our dog Rufus waiting for us outside. He’s our fur baby and getting to see him and have him included in photos on our wedding day was so special. We also love how our celebrant Carly created a ceremony that felt so perfect for us. She was totally on board with the surprise readings and poem our loved ones shared, and helped us create amazing vows that reflect who we are, and the way we approach our marriage.

What was your favourite part of the day?
There were so many amazing moments that I want to re-live over and over, but my favourite part of the day was walking into High Church and seeing my husband-to-be. I couldn’t hold back the tears. We also chose not to have a bridal party and getting to spend time during our photos one-on-one was so special.
Were there any funny stories for the day?
There were some pretty epic moves being thrown down on the dance floor – a near face-plant and some brokenwine glasses – pretty standard wedding fare though right?! Reading the guest book and seeing the photos taken in the photobooth the day was fun – seeing the progression from the start of the evening to the end of the night was entertaining 😉
How did you feel at the end of the day?
Loved up, blissfully happy and very tired! Everyone tells you the day goes by in the blink of an eye, and they’re right! I’m so glad that every time I look at our photos I get to remember the most perfect day.
